More times than you might imagine, here is how our customers find us: They share a long-running joke with a friend, a relative, or a co-worker about 'sitting around eating bon bons'. Then, one day, inspiration hits and they try to find bon bons as a gift for a special occasion. They Google bon bons and decide that our handmade, hand-dipped chocolate bon bons are exactly what they had in mind. They order bon bons, much to the delight of the gift recipient. In many cases, the gift recipient then orders bon bons for someone else. Repeat cycle.
That was exactly what happened when a new customer from Colorado shipped bon bons to her mother in Ohio, who then shipped bon bons to others for retirement and congratulations gifts. I kept seeing that last name pop up in our order queue and was thrilled to know that our product was a hit with a new group of people who discovered us online.
Then, the phone rang. The lady from Ohio introduced herself and proceeded to tell me the sweetest little story. Turns out, her three-year-old granddaughter, Karissa, was enamored with South 'n France Bon Bons. Like the way other three-year-olds are obsessed with Elmo or Dora the Explorer. This adorable cutie asks to watch our home page video repeatedly. Our brochure is one of her prized possessions. Ask her: "Who makes the bon bons?", and she will reply with a twinkle in her eye, "Charlene and Pascal". Seriously??? Cuteness overload! To learn that a three-year-old in Colorado thinks that we are as cool as Elmo just may be the best compliment we have ever received. Ever.
Our customer went on to explain that the entire family, little Karissa included, would be vacationing soon in Topsail Beach. The family wanted to drive down to Wilmington to let Karissa see our humble bon bon factory in person. Would we be willing to meet with her? Mais, oui! Bien sûr!
Karissa arrived sporting a white hat with pink trim, so I had to immediately go fetch my own hat. She was a little shy at first, but she warmed right up when I had her Daddy try on my hat too. Boy, did he look silly! We showed her around, snapped some pics, and of course, set up with her very own bag of bon bons. I'm not sure if we lived up to her expectations, but I can definitely tell you we were over the moon. That little sweetie pie made our week, and we shall never forget our biggest littlest fan. It's moments like the one we shared with Karissa that make all of those long days of rolling and dipping bon bons worthwhile.
