But, Why, Mommy, Why??

One of my best girlfriends is a mother of two very bright and thoughtful girls, ages 11 and 9. Recently, while driving down the freeway in Los Angeles, her youngest asked her this question out of the blue: "If there was a bee in the car while we were driving down the highway, would the bee be moving or standing still?"  Now I don't know about you, but I'm a little rusty on my physics and I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a suitable answer, which of course, is exactly what this precocious 9-year-old inquiring mind wanted--immediately. Its just one more proof that motherhood is indeed the most difficult job in the world. Take a look at some of these typical "kids in deep thought" questions and see how many YOU can answer:
Mommy, can you cry under water?

Mommy, why is the sky blue?

Mommy, when you go to heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in every single day for ever and ever?

Mommy, if pizza is round, why does it come in a square box?

Mommy, if Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about him?

Mommy, if the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix the hole that's in the boat?

Mommy, why does Goofy always stand up, but Pluto stays on all fours? Aren’t they both dogs?

Mommy, if Wile E. Coyote has enough money to buy all those ACME fireworks, why doesn't he just buy himself some dinner?

Mommy, if corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

Mommy, do The Alphabet Song, Bah Bah Black Sheep, and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star all have the same tune?

Mommy, why did you have to sing all three songs before you gave me the answer?

If there is one question that Mommies out there can answer without much reflection it's: "Why do you deserve to sit around eating bon bons?"  On the blog, Modern Mama's Popular Faves, Modern Mama Diana asked her readers that very question. Take a look at the more than 200 responses she got back!

Don't forget that we're still taking entries for our Bon Bon Mom of the Year Contest - do you know a Mom who deserves to be treated like royalty and showered with bon bons all year long? Then tell us about her! So far, we’ve had daughters, husbands, and friends telling us amazing stories about why the special "mama" they know should win.
